EQUSaT Staff Celebrate Labour Day 2025 with Unity and Joy at Bajja
May 02, 2025
Equator University of Science and Technology (EQUSaT) was honoured to host a team from the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), whose visit was aimed at raising awareness about the importance of business formalization and intellectual property rights.
The interactive session brought together students, faculty, and administrators, all eager to understand how the registration of businesses, companies, NGOs, patents, trademarks, and copyrights plays a transformative role in Uganda's entrepreneurial landscape.
URSB officials articulated how formal registration can not only protect a business idea but also serve as a gateway to funding, legal protection, and long-term sustainability.
One of the major takeaways was the importance of intellectual property (IP) rights in a rapidly digitizing world. Students from various faculties, including IT, health sciences, and business, found value in learning how patents and copyrights safeguard innovation and creativity.
The officials emphasized that registering a venture isn't just a legal formality—it's an essential step in building legitimacy, attracting investors, and scaling sustainably. Whether it’s a startup, a nonprofit, or a student innovation project, registration through URSB gives it a clear identity and legal standing.
EQUSaT VC Prof. Mouhamad Mpezamihigo said that the university is committed to working together with URSB and urged students to register their small businesses. He also urged staff to register their Sacco so that it is formally recognized.
